How to Use ActiveCampaign

A practical guide to get you up and running with ActiveCampaign. Written by Delv Editorial, Delv Team.

Getting started with ActiveCampaign

In this guide, you'll learn how to set up your ActiveCampaign account and create your first email marketing campaign. By the end, you'll be ready to engage your customers with automated emails.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to ActiveCampaign's website.
  2. Click on the Get Started button at the top right corner.
  3. Fill in your details to create an account. You can start with a 14-day free trial.
  4. After signing up, follow the prompts to set up your business information and preferences. This includes entering your business name and website URL.

Step 2: Your first email campaign

  1. From the dashboard, click on Campaigns in the left-hand menu.
  2. Click the Create Campaign button.
  3. Choose Email as the campaign type and give it a name.
  4. Select a template or start from scratch, then click Next.
  5. Add your email content, including subject line, body text, and images.
  6. Click Next to select your recipients. You can choose from your existing lists or create a new one.
  7. Once you’ve set your recipients, click Send Now or schedule for later.

Step 3: Get better results

  • Use the Automation feature by clicking on Automations in the left-hand menu. Here, you can create workflows that trigger emails based on user actions, like signing up for your list or clicking a link in an email.
  • Experiment with A/B testing by creating different versions of your email to see which performs better. You can set this up when creating your campaign by selecting the A/B Test option.

Pro tip

Take advantage of the Visual Automation Builder. It allows you to map out customer journeys visually, making it easier to understand and optimise your campaigns. You can find it under the Automations section.

Common mistake to avoid

Don't forget to segment your audience. Sending the same email to everyone can lead to lower engagement rates. Use tags or lists to ensure your messages are relevant to the right people. This option is available when you select your recipients during campaign creation.
