Getting started with Artbreeder

In this guide, you will learn how to create unique images by blending and evolving visuals using Artbreeder. By the end, you'll be able to use the platform to generate and modify images to suit your creative needs.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

1. Go to Artbreeder's website.
2. Click on the "Sign Up" button in the top right corner.
3. Choose to sign up using your Google account or by entering your email and creating a password.
4. Once signed in, you will receive 10 free credits per month to start creating.

Step 2: Your first image creation

1. On the homepage, click on the "Create" button.
2. Select "Splicer" to blend existing images. You'll see a selection of images to choose from.
3. Click on any image thumbnail to open it. You can then adjust traits using the sliders on the right side of the screen.
4. To add another image, click on the “Add” button under "Parents" and select another image to blend.
5. Adjust the sliders for each parent image to control how much influence each has on the final result.
6. Once satisfied, click the "Download" button to save your creation.

Step 3: Get better results

1. Experiment with the “Mixer” option for combining different concepts. This allows for more diverse creations.
2. Use the "Traits" sliders to fine-tune specific visual elements like colour, style, and detail.
3. Explore the "Patterns" mode for generating intricate textures by adjusting the pattern settings.

Pro tip

Use the "Save" feature frequently while working on an image. This allows you to keep different versions of your work, making it easy to revert back if you don’t like the changes.

Common mistake to avoid

Many beginners forget to adjust the "Traits" sliders after selecting images. Always check and tweak these sliders to achieve the best results for your blended images.
