Getting started with Canva AI

After reading this guide, you'll be able to create stunning designs using Canva AI's features, like generating images and removing backgrounds, all without needing advanced design skills.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

1. Go to canva.com.
2. Click on the Sign up button in the top right corner.
3. Choose to sign up using your email, Google, or Facebook account.
4. Follow the prompts to complete your registration.
5. Once signed in, you can choose between the Free tier or upgrade to Pro for additional features.

Step 2: Your first design

1. From the dashboard, click on the Create a design button.
2. Select a design type (e.g., Presentation, Instagram Post).
3. To use AI features, click on the Apps tab on the left sidebar.
4. Select Magic Design to generate a layout. Input your text prompt and click Generate.
5. Choose a design you like and click on it to customise further.
6. To remove backgrounds from an image, click on the image, then select Edit Image and click on Background Remover.
7. Once satisfied, click Download in the top right corner to save your design.

Step 3: Get better results

• Use specific keywords in your prompts for the Magic Design feature to get tailored results.
• Explore the Elements tab to find icons and images that complement your design.
• Adjust the size and positioning of text and images by dragging the corners or using the alignment tools in the top menu.

Pro tip

Use the Brand Kit feature (available in Pro) to save your brand colours, logos, and fonts for quick access, ensuring consistency across all your designs.
