Getting started with Canva AI Video

After reading this guide, you’ll be able to create engaging videos using Canva’s AI features, including dubbing and avatars, all within minutes.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to Canva's AI Video page.
  2. Click on the Sign up button in the top right corner if you don’t already have an account. You can sign up using your email, Google, or Facebook account.
  3. Once signed in, navigate to the Video tab in the main menu or search for "AI Video" in the search bar.

Step 2: Your first video

  1. Click on Create a design and select Video.
  2. Choose a template that fits your needs or start with a blank design.
  3. To add a voiceover, click on the Audio tab on the left panel and select Dubbing. Here, you can choose a voice and type in the text you want to be spoken.
  4. For avatars, click on Elements, then search for "Avatar" to find animated characters. Drag and drop your chosen avatar onto the canvas.
  5. Add your visuals by uploading images or selecting from Canva’s library. Arrange them on the timeline at the bottom.
  6. Click on the Play button to preview your video, and make adjustments as needed.
  7. Once satisfied, click on the Download button in the top right corner, select your video format, and download your creation.

Step 3: Get better results

  • Use the Magic Design feature by clicking on the Magic button in the editing panel. Upload images and Canva will suggest layouts and designs for your video.
  • Experiment with different voice styles in the Dubbing section to find one that matches your video's tone.
  • Keep your videos under 2 minutes for better engagement.

Pro tip

If you want to save time, use the Magic Resize feature after creating your video. This allows you to instantly adapt your project for different platforms (like Instagram or YouTube) without starting from scratch.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid adding too much text to your slides. Keep it minimal to ensure viewers can read and absorb the information quickly. Too much text can overwhelm and disengage your audience.
