Step 1: Sign up and set up

Step 2: Your first chat

1. On the ChatPDF homepage, click on the "Upload PDF" button.
2. Select a PDF document from your device and wait for it to upload.
3. Once uploaded, you’ll see a chat interface. Type a question in the chat box, such as "Can you summarise this document?" or "What are the key findings?"
4. Press "Enter" to send your question and wait for ChatPDF to respond with relevant information.

Step 3: Get better results

1. To refine your questions, be specific. Instead of asking "Tell me about this PDF," try "What are the main conclusions in section 3?"
2. Use keywords from the document to guide your queries. This helps ChatPDF find the most relevant sections.
3. If you need a summary, ask for "a summary of the introduction" or "key points from the conclusion" for targeted results.

Pro tip

When asking questions, format them clearly and include specific sections or keywords to get quicker and more accurate responses. For example, "What does the author say about X in section Y?"

Common mistake to avoid

Many users upload large PDFs without checking the page limit. Remember, the free tier restricts you to 120 pages per PDF. If your document exceeds this, it won't upload. Always check the page count before uploading.
