Getting started with D-ID

In this guide, you'll learn how to create lifelike digital avatars using D-ID. By the end, you'll be able to transform a still image into an interactive avatar that can speak and engage with viewers.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to D-ID's website.
  2. Click on the "Sign Up" button in the top right corner.
  3. Enter your email address and create a password, then click "Create Account."
  4. Check your email for a verification link and click it to confirm your account.
  5. Once verified, log in to your account.

Step 2: Your first avatar

  1. After logging in, navigate to the "Studio" section in the main menu.
  2. Click on "Create New Avatar."
  3. Upload a clear image of a person you want to turn into an avatar by clicking the "Upload Image" button.
  4. Once the image is uploaded, select a voice for your avatar by clicking on the "Voice" dropdown menu and choosing a language and voice type.
  5. Enter the text you want your avatar to say in the text box provided.
  6. Click the "Preview" button to see how your avatar looks and sounds.
  7. If satisfied, click "Export" to save your avatar video or share it directly using the provided options.

Step 3: Get better results

  • Experiment with different images and voices to find the best combination for your project.
  • Use the "Expressions" feature to add emotions to your avatar. Click on the "Expressions" tab and choose from various options like happy, sad, or surprised.
  • Adjust the timing of the speech by modifying the text length to match the avatar’s lip movements.

Pro tip

Use high-quality images with good lighting for better results. Avoid images with shadows or obstructions on the face, as these can affect the avatar's realism.

Common mistake to avoid

Many users forget to verify their email, which prevents them from accessing the platform. Ensure you check your inbox (and spam folder) for the verification email after signing up.
