Getting started with Descript
With Descript, you'll learn to edit videos as easily as editing text documents. After this guide, you'll be able to transcribe audio, edit video clips, and use the overdub feature to enhance your content.Step 1: Sign up and set up
- Go to Descript's website.
- Click on the Get Started for Free button.
- Enter your email address and create a password, or sign up using Google for quicker access.
- Confirm your email via the link sent to your inbox.
- Once logged in, you’ll see the dashboard. Familiarise yourself with the layout, including the New Project button at the top right.
Step 2: Your first video edit
- Click on New Project and name your project.
- In the project window, click on Import to upload a video file or drag and drop your video directly.
- Wait for Descript to transcribe your video automatically. This may take a few moments depending on the length.
- Once transcribed, you’ll see the text on the left. To edit the video, simply highlight the text you want to remove and press the Delete key. The video will update accordingly.
- To add audio or voiceovers, click on the Overdub button in the toolbar. Follow the prompts to create or upload your voiceover.
Step 3: Get better results
- Use the Timeline view at the bottom to see your video clips visually. You can drag and drop clips to rearrange them easily.
- Experiment with the Editing tools like Cut, Split, and Merge for more precise adjustments.
- For advanced features, explore the Effects menu to add background music or sound effects that enhance your video.
