Getting started with Dimensions

In this guide, you'll learn how to sign up for Dimensions and use its features to find and analyse scholarly outputs quickly. By the end, you'll be able to navigate the platform efficiently and leverage its AI-powered analytics.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to Dimensions.
  2. Click on the "Sign Up" button in the top right corner.
  3. Fill in your details (name, email, and password) and click "Create Account."
  4. Verify your email address by clicking the link sent to your inbox.
  5. Log in to your account.
  1. After logging in, you'll be directed to the main dashboard.
  2. In the search bar at the top, type in a keyword related to your research topic and press "Enter."
  3. Use the filters on the left sidebar to narrow your results (e.g., by publication type, year, or subject area).
  4. Click on any title to view the full details, including citations, related research, and analytics.
  5. To save a publication, click the "Save" button located under the title.

Step 3: Get better results

  1. Use the "Advanced Search" option next to the search bar to refine your queries with specific fields (e.g., author, journal, or funding).
  2. Explore the "Analytics" tab for insights on trends, citation counts, and research impact.
  3. Set up alerts for your searches by clicking on the "Save Search" option to receive notifications for new publications matching your criteria.

Pro tip

Take advantage of the "Export" feature to download your search results in various formats (CSV, BibTeX, etc.) by clicking the "Export" button in the results list. This saves time when compiling references for your research.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid using overly broad keywords in your initial search. This can lead to irrelevant results. Instead, start with specific terms and gradually broaden your search as needed.
