Getting started with Dimensions AI

In this guide, you’ll learn how to quickly access a wealth of research resources, including publications, datasets, grants, patents, and clinical trials using Dimensions AI. By the end, you’ll be able to conduct comprehensive research efficiently.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

1. Go to Dimensions AI.
2. Click on the "Sign Up" button located at the top right corner of the homepage.
3. Fill in your details, including your email address and a password. Alternatively, you can sign up using your institutional login if available.
4. Confirm your email by clicking the link sent to your inbox.
5. Log in to your new account.

Step 2: Your first search

1. Once logged in, you’ll see the search bar prominently displayed on the homepage.
2. Enter a keyword or phrase related to your research topic and hit Enter.
3. Use the filters on the left side to narrow your results by category (e.g., Publications, Datasets, Patents) or by date.
4. Click on any result to view detailed information. You can explore related datasets, grants, and patents linked to that publication.

Step 3: Get better results

1. Use the "Advanced Search" option next to the search bar for more precise queries. Here, you can combine keywords with Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT).
2. Save your searches by clicking the "Save Search" button after you’ve set your filters. This allows you to revisit your search results later.
3. Set up alerts for new publications or updates on specific topics by clicking on the "Create Alert" option after performing a search.

Pro tip

Use the "Cited by" feature on publication pages to quickly find more recent papers that reference the work you’re interested in. This can lead you to the latest research developments in your field.
