Getting started with DocuSign IAM

In this guide, you’ll learn how to set up and use DocuSign IAM for electronic signatures and managing agreements efficiently. By the end, you’ll be able to send documents for signature, extract data, and automate your workflows.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Visit DocuSign's website.
  2. Click on the "Get Started" button in the top right corner.
  3. Choose a plan that suits your needs. The Personal plan is $10/month and allows basic signing features. The Standard plan is $25/user/month and includes advanced features.
  4. Fill out the sign-up form with your details and create a password.
  5. Verify your email address through the confirmation email sent to you.

Step 2: Your first signature request

  1. Log in to your DocuSign account.
  2. Click on the "New" button in the top left corner and select "Send an Envelope."
  3. Upload the document you want signed by clicking "Upload" or dragging your file into the designated area.
  4. Add the recipient's email address in the "Add Recipients" section.
  5. Click "Next" to position the signature fields. Drag and drop the "Signature" field onto the document where you want the recipient to sign.
  6. Click "Send" to deliver the signing request.

Step 3: Get better results

  1. Use the "Templates" feature to save frequently used documents. Click on "Templates" in the left sidebar, then "Create Template" to streamline your workflow.
  2. Explore the "Data Extraction" feature by selecting a document and clicking on "Extract Data." This allows you to pull key information from contracts automatically.
  3. Set up reminders for recipients by clicking on "Advanced Options" during the sending process and checking the "Set Reminder" box.

Pro tip

Use the "Bulk Send" feature for sending the same document to multiple recipients at once. This can save time when dealing with large groups.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid sending documents without reviewing the fields first. Always double-check that the signature and date fields are in the correct locations to prevent delays in the signing process.
