Getting started with Filmora

In this guide, you will learn how to sign up for Filmora and create your first video using its AI features. By the end, you'll be ready to start editing videos like a pro, even if you're a beginner.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to the Filmora website.
  2. Click on the “Get Started” button on the homepage.
  3. Choose the free plan option and click on “Download”. If prompted, select your operating system.
  4. Install Filmora by following the on-screen instructions.
  5. Launch the application and create an account by clicking on the “Sign Up” button. You can use your email or sign in with Google.

Step 2: Your first video project

  1. After logging in, click on “New Project” from the main dashboard.
  2. Import your video clips by clicking on the “Import” button in the media library.
  3. Drag your clips to the timeline at the bottom.
  4. To use an AI feature, click on the “AI Tools” tab on the left panel. Select a feature like “AI Image to Video”.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to convert images into a video clip. Adjust the duration and transitions as needed.
  6. Once satisfied, click on the “Export” button in the top right corner to save your video.

Step 3: Get better results

  • Explore the “Effects” tab to add filters, transitions, and text overlays. Drag and drop these effects onto your clips in the timeline.
  • Use the “Audio” tab to add background music or audio effects. Filmora has a library of royalty-free music.
  • For better synchronisation, use the “Audio Sync” feature under the “Edit” menu to match your audio and video perfectly.

Pro tip

Use keyboard shortcuts to speed up your editing process. For example, press “Ctrl + Z” to undo, and “Ctrl + S” to save your project frequently.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid skipping the tutorial prompts when you first open Filmora. They provide useful information on how to navigate the interface and use key features, which can save you time and frustration later.
