How to Use Flux (Black Forest Labs)

A practical guide to get you up and running with Flux (Black Forest Labs). Written by Delv Editorial, Delv Team.

Getting started with Flux

In this guide, you'll learn how to create stunning images using Flux, an open-source image generation model. You'll be set up to generate images quickly and efficiently, whether you're a hobbyist or a professional creator.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to the Flux website.
  2. Click on the "Get Started" button in the top right corner.
  3. Choose the Schnell model for free access. If you need more features, consider the Dev model for non-commercial use or the Pro model for API access.
  4. Follow the prompts to create an account or log in if you already have one.

Step 2: Your first image generation

  1. Once logged in, navigate to the "Image Generation" section from the main menu.
  2. In the text box labelled "Enter your prompt," type a clear description of the image you want to create (e.g., "a serene forest landscape at sunrise").
  3. Select the desired model variant (Schnell for free users).
  4. Click the "Generate" button to create your image.
  5. Wait a few moments for Flux to process your request. Your image will appear below the prompt once it's ready.

Step 3: Get better results

  1. Be specific in your prompts; the more detail you provide, the better the output. Include styles, colours, and specific elements (e.g., "a vibrant sunset with purple and orange hues").
  2. Experiment with different model variants if available to see which produces the best results for your needs.
  3. Use the "Advanced Settings" option to adjust parameters like resolution and style if you have access to them, particularly in the Dev or Pro models.

Pro tip

Use the "Save" feature after generating an image to create a collection of your best works. This allows you to easily revisit or modify them later without re-entering prompts.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid vague prompts. A prompt like "a dog" will yield less satisfactory results than a detailed description like "a golden retriever playing in a sunny park." Clarity is key to achieving the best outcomes with Flux.
