A practical guide to get you up and running with Glasp. Written by Delv Editorial, Delv Team.

Getting started with Glasp

In this guide, you'll learn how to use Glasp to highlight important information from web pages, PDFs, YouTube videos, and Kindle books. By the end, you'll be able to collect and share research insights effectively.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to Glasp's website.
  2. Click on the Sign Up button in the top right corner.
  3. You can sign up using your Google account or by entering your email address and creating a password.
  4. Once signed up, check your email for a verification link and click it to activate your account.

Step 2: Your first highlight

  1. Navigate to any web page you want to highlight.
  2. Once the Glasp extension is installed (available for Chrome), click on the Glasp icon in your browser toolbar.
  3. Select the text you wish to highlight. A pop-up will appear allowing you to add a comment or tag if desired.
  4. Click Save Highlight. Your highlighted text will be saved to your Glasp account.
  5. To view your highlights, click on the Glasp icon again and select My Highlights from the menu.

Step 3: Get better results

  1. Use tags to organise your highlights. When saving a highlight, add relevant tags to make it easier to find later.
  2. Explore the Discover section to see highlights from other users. This can inspire your research and give you new insights.
  3. Regularly review your highlights and comments. This will reinforce your learning and help you connect different pieces of information.

Pro tip

Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + H (or Cmd + Shift + H on Mac) to quickly highlight text without needing to click the Glasp icon each time. This saves time and keeps your workflow smooth.

Common mistake to avoid

Many users forget to tag their highlights. Without tags, it becomes difficult to locate specific highlights later, so make it a habit to tag each highlight as you save it.
