How to Use Grok

A practical guide to get you up and running with Grok. Written by Delv Editorial, Delv Team.

Getting started with Grok

In this guide, you'll learn how to set up Grok, xAI's conversational AI, and start using it to get direct answers and insights from real-time X/Twitter data. By the end, you'll be able to engage with the AI effectively and enhance your research capabilities.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to grok.com.
  2. Click on the Sign Up button in the top right corner.
  3. Enter your email address and create a password. Alternatively, you can sign up using your X/Twitter account for quicker access.
  4. Confirm your email address through the link sent to your inbox.
  5. Once logged in, you’ll see the Grok dashboard, ready for your queries.

Step 2: Your first question

  1. In the dashboard, locate the text input box at the centre of the screen.
  2. Type in a question or topic you want to explore. For example, "What are the latest trends in AI?"
  3. Press Enter or click the Send button next to the input box.
  4. Grok will process your query and provide a concise answer, pulling information from real-time X/Twitter data.
  5. You can ask follow-up questions for more detailed insights.

Step 3: Get better results

  1. Use specific keywords and phrases in your questions to get more accurate answers. For example, instead of asking "Tell me about AI," try "What are the recent AI advancements discussed on X/Twitter?"
  2. Explore the Explore Topics section on the left side of the dashboard to find trending discussions and popular posts.
  3. If Grok's response is too general, rephrase your query or ask for examples to narrow down the information.

Pro tip

Use the Bookmark feature to save important responses or threads. This allows you to revisit valuable information without having to search again.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid vague questions like "What's happening?" These can lead to broad responses. Instead, be specific about the topic or event you want to know about to ensure you receive relevant information.
