Getting started with Khroma

In this guide, you'll learn how to set up Khroma and create your first custom colour palette based on your preferences. By the end, you'll be able to generate tailored colour combinations that suit your creative projects.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to Khroma's website.
  2. Click on the “Get Started” button on the homepage.
  3. You will be prompted to select at least 10 colours that you like. Click on the colours in the colour wheel or enter their hex codes.
  4. After making your selections, click “Continue”. You’ll be directed to your dashboard where Khroma will start generating palettes based on your choices.

Step 2: Your first palette

  1. On the dashboard, you’ll see a “Generate” button. Click it to create a new palette.
  2. Khroma will display a selection of colour palettes. Browse through the options.
  3. If you find a palette you like, click on the palette to view its details.
  4. You can save the palette by clicking the “Save” button, or you can copy the hex codes for use in your design projects.

Step 3: Get better results

  1. Regularly update your colour selections by clicking on “Edit Preferences” in your dashboard. This helps Khroma refine its recommendations.
  2. Explore the “Explore” section to see trending palettes and colour combinations for inspiration.
  3. Use the “Palette Variations” feature to see different shades and tints of your saved palettes. This can help you find the perfect match for your project.

Pro tip

To save time, create a mood board with your favourite colours before starting on Khroma. This will help you quickly select colours you are drawn to, speeding up the initial setup process.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid selecting too many random colours at the start. Stick to colours that truly resonate with you. This will ensure that Khroma generates palettes that are more aligned with your style and preferences.
