Getting started with Luma AI

In this guide, you will learn how to create cinematic video clips using Luma AI’s Dream Machine. By the end, you'll be able to generate your first video from text and image prompts with ease.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

1. Go to lumalabs.ai.
2. Click on the Sign Up button in the top right corner.
3. Enter your email address and create a password, or sign up using your Google account.
4. Confirm your email through the link sent to your inbox.
5. Once logged in, navigate to your dashboard where you'll find the option to start creating videos.

Step 2: Your first video

1. On the dashboard, click on the Create Video button.
2. Select Dream Machine from the options presented.
3. In the Text Prompt field, type a descriptive sentence for your video (e.g., "A serene mountain landscape at sunset").
4. Upload an image by clicking on the Upload Image button, which can enhance the generated video.
5. Click Generate to start the process. Wait a moment as Luma AI creates your video.
6. Once complete, you will see a preview of your video. You can download it or share it directly from the platform.

Step 3: Get better results

1. Be specific in your text prompts to guide the AI better. For example, instead of "a beach," try "a sunny beach with palm trees and people playing volleyball."
2. Experiment with different images; the more relevant they are to your text, the better the results.
3. Use the Settings option to adjust the video length and aspect ratio if needed, ensuring it fits your intended use.

Pro tip

Explore the Explore tab to view sample videos created by other users. This can inspire your prompts and give you an idea of what works well.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid vague prompts like "a nice scene." Specificity is key; the more detail you provide, the more accurately the AI can generate your video.
