Getting started with Lumen5

In this guide, you’ll learn how to create engaging videos from your blog posts or articles using Lumen5. By the end, you'll be able to convert written content into branded videos quickly and easily.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to Lumen5's website.
  2. Click on the Get Started for Free button.
  3. Enter your email and create a password, or sign up using Google or Facebook.
  4. Choose the free tier to start. You’ll have access to basic features for video creation.

Step 2: Your first video

  1. Once logged in, click the Create Video button on your dashboard.
  2. Select Blog URL or Text to input your content. If using a URL, paste it into the provided field and click Import.
  3. Lumen5 will automatically generate scenes based on your content. Review the scenes in the storyboard view.
  4. To edit a scene, click on it. You can change the text, and background, or add new media from the Media Library on the left panel.
  5. Once satisfied, click the Preview button to watch your video.
  6. If everything looks good, click Publish and then select Download to save the video.

Step 3: Get better results

  • Use the Scene Layout options to change how text and media are arranged. Experiment with different layouts to see what works best for your content.
  • Add your brand colours and logo in the Branding settings to ensure consistency across your videos.
  • Incorporate music by clicking on the Audio tab and selecting a track from the library or uploading your own.

Pro tip

Use the Text-to-Scene feature to automatically generate scenes based on your script. This saves time by quickly breaking down your content into manageable parts.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid using overly long blog posts. Lumen5 works best with concise articles. If your content is too lengthy, it may create too many scenes, making the video cluttered and difficult to follow. Aim for a blog post of around 500 words for optimal results.
