Getting started with Mailchimp AI

In this guide, you'll learn how to set up Mailchimp AI for your email marketing needs, create your first email campaign, and optimise it for better results. By the end, you'll be ready to engage your audience effectively using AI-generated content.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to Mailchimp's website.
  2. Click on the Sign Up Free button on the homepage.
  3. Enter your email address, create a username, and set a password. Click Get Started.
  4. Follow the prompts to complete your profile and verify your email.
  5. Once logged in, navigate to the Audience tab on the left sidebar and click on Manage Audience > Settings to set up your audience preferences.

Step 2: Your first email campaign

  1. From the dashboard, click on the Campaigns tab.
  2. Click the Create Campaign button.
  3. Select Email from the options.
  4. Choose Regular for a standard email campaign.
  5. Name your campaign and click Begin.
  6. Under the To section, choose your audience. If you haven't added contacts yet, click Add Contacts.
  7. In the From section, set your sender name and email address.
  8. For the Subject line, use the AI-generated suggestions by clicking the Content Optimizer button. This will provide you with recommendations based on industry benchmarks.
  9. Click Design Email to choose a template or start from scratch. Use the drag-and-drop editor to add text, images, and buttons.
  10. Review your email, then click Send or schedule it for later.

Step 3: Get better results

  • Use the Content Optimizer throughout your email creation process. After drafting your email, click on the Content Optimizer icon to receive feedback on your subject lines, body copy, and calls to action.
  • Experiment with the Send Time Optimisation feature, which suggests the best time to send your emails based on your audience's engagement patterns.
  • Regularly check the Reports section after sending campaigns to analyse open rates, click rates, and other metrics.

Pro tip

Before sending your email, always preview it using the Preview and Test option. This allows you to see how your email looks on different devices and ensures everything is displayed correctly.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid skipping the audience segmentation step. Not targeting your emails can lead to lower engagement rates. Always ensure you’re sending relevant content to the right segments of your audience.
