Getting started with Mention

In this guide, you'll learn how to set up Mention, a real-time media monitoring tool, and start tracking your brand's online presence. By the end, you'll be able to monitor mentions across social media, forums, and news sites effectively.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to Mention's website.
  2. Click on the "Get Started Free" button on the homepage.
  3. Fill in your details (name, email, password) and click "Create Account".
  4. Confirm your email address by clicking the link in the confirmation email you receive.
  5. Log in to your new Mention account.

Step 2: Your first alert

  1. Once logged in, click on the "Create Alert" button in your dashboard.
  2. Enter the keywords or phrases you want to monitor in the text box (e.g., your brand name or relevant topics).
  3. Adjust the settings for your alert:
- Sources: Select where you want to track mentions (e.g., Social Media, News, Blogs). - Language: Choose the language for your alerts. - Location: Specify a geographic area if necessary.
  1. Click "Save Alert". Your first alert is now set up, and you will start receiving notifications.

Step 3: Get better results

  1. Regularly review your alerts by going to the "Alerts" section in the sidebar.
  2. Use the "Filters" option to narrow down results based on sentiment, source, or date.
  3. Engage with mentions directly by clicking on them to view the source, allowing you to respond promptly.

Pro tip

Set up multiple alerts for different keywords or phrases to cover various aspects of your brand or industry. This way, you can monitor broader conversations without missing important mentions.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid using overly generic keywords in your alerts. This can lead to a flood of irrelevant mentions, making it difficult to identify valuable insights. Be specific with your keywords to ensure you receive relevant notifications.
