Getting started with MyBib

After reading this guide, you’ll be able to quickly generate accurate citations for your academic work using MyBib, saving you time and reducing errors.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to MyBib.
  2. Click on the "Sign Up" button in the top right corner.
  3. Enter your email address and create a password, or choose to sign up using Google for quicker access.
  4. Confirm your email if prompted, and then log in to your new account.

Step 2: Your first citation

  1. On the MyBib dashboard, click on the "Create Citation" button.
  2. Select the type of source you want to cite (e.g., Book, Website, Journal Article) from the dropdown menu.
  3. Fill in the required fields (like title, author, publication date) based on the source you are citing.
  4. Choose your citation style from the "Citation Style" dropdown menu (over 9,000 styles are available).
  5. Click the "Add Citation" button to generate the citation. You can then copy it to your clipboard or export it directly to your bibliography.

Step 3: Get better results

  • For websites, use the "Search" feature to find the source automatically by entering the URL. MyBib will pull the necessary information for you.
  • If you need to create a bibliography, click on "Bibliography" in the top menu, and then "Add Citation" to compile multiple citations into one list.
  • Review the generated citations for accuracy; you can manually edit any details if needed.

Pro tip

Use the "Export" button to save your citations directly to Google Docs or Word. This saves time compared to copying and pasting each citation individually.

Common mistake to avoid

Don’t forget to double-check the citation format after generation. While MyBib is accurate, minor details can vary based on specific style guides, so always ensure it meets your requirements.
