Getting started with Pika

In this guide, you'll learn how to create and edit videos using Pika, an AI-powered tool that transforms text, images, or existing video clips into engaging content. By the end, you’ll be ready to generate your first custom video and explore creative effects.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Visit Pika's website.
  2. Click on the Sign Up button located at the top right corner.
  3. Choose to sign up with your email or your Google account.
  4. Enter your details and verify your email if prompted.
  5. Once logged in, you’ll see your dashboard with your initial 250 credits available in the free plan.

Step 2: Your first video creation

  1. On the dashboard, click the Create Video button.
  2. Select whether you want to start from Text, Image, or Video Clip.
  3. If you choose Text, enter a script for your video in the provided text box. For Image or Video Clip, upload your media by clicking on the Upload button.
  4. After selecting your media, click on Add Effects to explore creative options.
  5. Choose effects like Lip Sync, Melt, or Explode from the effects library.
  6. Click Preview to see a draft of your video. If satisfied, hit the Export button to generate your video.
  7. Wait for the processing to finish, and then download your video by clicking the Download button.

Step 3: Get better results

  • To enhance your video, use specific prompts that are descriptive and detailed. For example, instead of just "a cat," try "a fluffy orange cat playing with a ball of yarn."
  • Experiment with different effects by clicking on Add Effects multiple times to layer them creatively.
  • Adjust settings like duration and transitions in the editing panel before exporting for a smoother final product.

Pro tip

Most beginners overlook the Templates section. Explore it to find pre-designed video templates that can save you time and provide inspiration for your projects.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid using overly vague text prompts or generic images. Be specific in your prompts to ensure Pika generates the best possible video content tailored to your vision.
