Getting started with Pixlr

In this guide, you'll learn how to edit photos using Pixlr, an online AI photo editor. You’ll be able to perform tasks like background removal and object removal without needing advanced skills.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to Pixlr's website.
  2. Click on the Get Started button.
  3. Choose between Pixlr X (for quick edits) or Pixlr E (for more detailed editing).
  4. You can use Pixlr for free with ads. For ad-free experience and additional features, consider the Plus plan at £4.90/month or the Premium plan at £14.99/month.

Step 2: Your first edit

  1. After selecting your editor, click on Open Image to upload a photo from your device.
  2. To remove the background, select the Cutout tool from the left toolbar.
  3. Choose the AI Cutout option. This will automatically detect and remove the background.
  4. Adjust the settings on the right panel if necessary, then click Apply.
  5. To save your edited image, click on Save in the top right corner and choose your desired format.

Step 3: Get better results

  • Experiment with the Adjustment tools (like Brightness, Contrast, and Saturation) found in the left toolbar to enhance your images further.
  • Use the Clone Stamp tool for object removal by selecting it from the toolbar and painting over the object you want to remove.
  • For batch editing, click on File > Batch and follow the prompts to edit multiple images at once.

Pro tip

Use keyboard shortcuts to speed up your workflow. For example, press Ctrl + Z to undo any mistakes quickly, or Ctrl + S to save your work.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid using overly complex edits without experimenting first. Start with simple adjustments to get familiar with the tools before attempting more intricate edits. This can save you time and frustration.
