How to Use R Discovery

A practical guide to get you up and running with R Discovery. Written by Delv Editorial, Delv Team.

Getting started with R Discovery

In this guide, you'll learn how to set up R Discovery and start receiving personalised paper recommendations. By the end, you'll be able to easily find and engage with relevant academic papers tailored to your interests.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to R Discovery's website or download the R Discovery app from your mobile device's app store.
  2. Click on the "Sign Up" button located at the top right corner of the homepage or app.
  3. Choose to sign up using your email address, Google account, or Apple ID.
  4. Complete the registration by entering your details and preferences when prompted.
  5. Once registered, you'll be taken to the main dashboard where you can start exploring.

Step 2: Your first paper discovery

  1. On the dashboard, you’ll see a feed of recommended papers. Tap on any paper title to see more details.
  2. To save a paper for later, click the "Save" button (usually a bookmark icon).
  3. To read the paper, select the "Read" button. If available, you can also choose to listen to an audio version if you have the Prime subscription.
  4. As you read, the app will learn your preferences, so continue to interact with the content by saving or liking papers.

Step 3: Get better results

  1. Regularly update your interests by clicking on the "Profile" icon and selecting "Interests". Here, you can add or remove topics to refine your recommendations.
  2. Engage with the papers by rating them or leaving comments, as this feedback helps the app tailor future suggestions.
  3. Check the "Discover" section periodically for trending papers in your fields of interest.

Pro tip

To save time, set aside a few minutes each day to quickly scroll through your recommendations. This daily habit will help you stay updated without feeling overwhelmed.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid skipping the interest selection during setup. If you don’t specify your research areas, R Discovery may not provide relevant recommendations, leading to a less personalised experience.
