Getting started with Rev

With Rev, you can quickly turn audio and video files into accurate transcriptions, captions, and speech-to-text outputs. After this guide, you’ll be able to easily upload files, choose your transcription method, and receive high-quality results.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to Rev’s website.
  2. Click on the “Sign Up” button located at the top right corner of the homepage.
  3. Fill in your email address and create a password, then click “Create Account”.
  4. Verify your email by clicking the link sent to your inbox.
  5. Once logged in, navigate to your dashboard where you can access all features.

Step 2: Your first transcription

  1. On your dashboard, click the “Order” button.
  2. Select either “Transcription” for human-powered or “Automated Transcription” for AI-generated transcripts.
  3. Upload your audio or video file by clicking “Upload Files” or drag and drop your file into the designated area.
  4. Choose your desired turnaround time (standard or expedited).
  5. Click “Add to Cart”, then review your order and click “Checkout”.
  6. Enter your payment information and confirm your order. You will receive an email when your transcript is ready.

Step 3: Get better results

  • For higher accuracy, especially with specialised vocabulary, opt for the human-powered transcription.
  • When uploading files, ensure they are in a common format (like MP3 or MP4) for best results.
  • If using the automated service, consider using clear audio and minimal background noise to enhance accuracy.

Pro tip

If you regularly need transcriptions, consider creating a project folder in your dashboard. This allows you to keep track of all your files and their statuses in one place, saving you time on future orders.

Common mistake to avoid

Many users forget to check their audio quality before uploading. Ensure your recordings are clear and free from excessive background noise to avoid poor transcription results.
