How to Use SciSummary

Getting started with SciSummary

After reading this guide, you'll be able to quickly summarise scientific articles and research papers using SciSummary, saving you valuable time and effort.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

1. Visit SciSummary.
2. Click on the Sign Up button located at the top right corner of the homepage.
3. Fill in your details (name, email, password) and click Create Account.
4. Check your email for a verification link and follow it to activate your account.

Step 2: Your first summary

1. Log in to your SciSummary account.
2. Once logged in, click on the Upload Document button on the dashboard.
3. Select the scientific article or research paper you want to summarise (PDF format is preferred).
4. After the upload is complete, click on the Generate Summary button.
5. Wait a few moments for the AI to process your document. Once done, you will see a structured summary that includes the abstract, key figures, references, and major findings.

Step 3: Get better results

1. For optimal results, ensure your document is clear and well-structured. Avoid papers with excessive formatting or images.
2. If the initial summary isn’t satisfactory, consider uploading a different version or a more concise paper.
3. Use the Feedback option to help improve the AI's performance over time, allowing it to learn from your preferences.

Pro tip

Use the Highlight Key Points feature after generating a summary to focus on specific sections that are most relevant to your research, saving time on sifting through the entire summary.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid uploading documents that are scanned images or poorly formatted texts. SciSummary works best with clean, text-based PDFs, so ensure your document is in the right format before uploading.
