Getting started with Stencil

In this guide, you'll learn how to create stunning graphics quickly using Stencil. By the end, you'll be able to design visuals for your blog or social media in just a few minutes.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

1. Go to getstencil.com.
2. Click on the Get Started Free button on the homepage.
3. Enter your email address and create a password, or sign up using a Google account.
4. Confirm your email if prompted, and log in to your new Stencil account.

Step 2: Your first design

1. Once logged in, click on the Create New Image button on your dashboard.
2. Choose your desired image size from the templates (e.g., Instagram Post, Facebook Post).
3. On the left sidebar, use the Templates tab to browse through pre-made designs. Click on a template to select it.
4. Customise your design by clicking on elements (text, images) to edit them. Use the Text tab to add or modify text.
5. To add images, click on the Photos tab, search for a keyword, and drag your chosen image onto the canvas.
6. Once satisfied, click the Download button in the top right corner to save your design.

Step 3: Get better results

• Explore the Icons and Backgrounds tabs to enhance your design further. You can layer different elements for a more complex look.
• Use the Branding feature (accessible from the left sidebar) to save your brand colours and logos for quick access in future designs.
• Experiment with the Effects option to add filters or styles to images for a more polished finish.

Pro tip

Use keyboard shortcuts to speed up your workflow: press Ctrl + Z to undo any mistakes and Ctrl + S to save your work frequently.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid using too many different fonts and colours in a single design. This can make your graphics look cluttered and unprofessional. Stick to a consistent style for better visual impact.
