Getting started with Sudowrite

In this guide, you will learn how to set up Sudowrite and start using it to enhance your fiction writing. You’ll be able to generate prose, develop characters, and expand scenes in just a few minutes.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to Sudowrite's website.
  2. Click on the “Sign Up” button in the top right corner.
  3. Choose your plan:
- Hobby ($10/month for 30,000 AI words) - Professional ($25/month for 90,000 AI words) - Max ($100/month for 300,000 AI words)
  1. Fill in your details and complete the payment process.
  2. Once signed up, log in to your account.

Step 2: Your first writing session

  1. Click on the “New Document” button on your dashboard.
  2. Start by typing a few sentences of your story in the text box.
  3. To generate more text, highlight a sentence or a paragraph you want to expand.
  4. Click on the “Continue” button that appears above the highlighted text.
  5. Sudowrite will generate suggestions you can choose from or edit further.

Step 3: Get better results

  • Use the “Character” feature by clicking on the “Characters” tab on the left sidebar. Here, you can create character profiles to help ensure consistency in your writing.
  • To enhance sensory details, highlight a section of your text, and click on the “Sensory” option. This will prompt Sudowrite to add descriptions that appeal to the five senses.
  • Regularly save your work by clicking the “Save” button in the top right corner to avoid losing any changes.

Pro tip

Instead of generating text in small chunks, try writing a full paragraph and then using the “Continue” feature. This can lead to more coherent and contextually relevant suggestions.

Common mistake to avoid

One common mistake is not taking advantage of the character profiles. Failing to create or refer to these profiles can lead to inconsistencies in your characters and story, making it harder for readers to connect with your narrative.
