Getting started with Type

In this guide, you'll learn how to set up Type and create your first long-form document using its AI writing features. By the end, you'll be able to generate, rewrite, and refine your content effectively.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

1. Go to Type's website.
2. Click on the Sign Up button in the top right corner.
3. Choose to sign up using your email or a Google account.
4. Fill in the required details and confirm your email address if prompted.
5. Once logged in, you will see the dashboard where you can start creating documents.

Step 2: Your first document

1. Click on the New Document button, usually located prominently on the dashboard.
2. Start typing your content in the editor that appears.
3. To generate text, click the AI Suggestions button (often represented by a lightbulb icon) while highlighting a section of your text.
4. Choose from the suggestions provided, or click Rewrite to generate alternative phrasings for your selected text.
5. Adjust the text length by using the Length Adjustment slider found in the right-hand panel, if available.

Step 3: Get better results

1. Use the Contextual Suggestions feature as you type to receive real-time prompts and ideas.
2. Experiment with different tones and styles by selecting options from the Tone dropdown menu in the toolbar.
3. Regularly save your document by clicking the Save button in the top right corner to avoid losing any work.
4. If you need to edit or change the generated content, use the Undo and Redo buttons in the toolbar to manage revisions easily.

Pro tip

Take advantage of the Templates feature to start with a structured format. You can find this option on the dashboard, which can save you time by providing a starting point for various types of documents.

Common mistake to avoid

Many users forget to adjust their AI usage settings. If you're on the free plan, monitor your AI usage limit closely to avoid interruptions. Check your usage status in the account settings under Usage to ensure you stay within your limit.
