Getting started with Vectr

In this guide, you will learn how to create vector graphics using Vectr, including converting images to vectors and making logos. By the end, you will be able to design your own visuals quickly and efficiently.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to vectr.com.
  2. Click on the "Sign Up" button located at the top right corner of the homepage.
  3. You can register using your email address or sign up with Google. Follow the prompts to complete your registration.
  4. Once signed in, you’ll be taken to the Vectr dashboard where you can start a new project.

Step 2: Your first vector graphic

  1. Click on the "Create New File" button on the dashboard.
  2. Choose your canvas size. You can select from preset sizes or enter custom dimensions.
  3. To import an image for conversion, click on the "Import" button on the left sidebar, then select the JPG or PNG file from your device.
  4. Once your image appears on the canvas, click on it to select it, then click on the "Convert to Vector" button in the right sidebar.
  5. Adjust the vector settings as needed, then click “Apply” to see the changes.

Step 3: Get better results

  1. Use the "Layers" panel on the right to organise your elements. This helps keep your design tidy.
  2. Experiment with the "Styles" panel to apply different colours, gradients, and effects to your shapes.
  3. For logo design, start with basic shapes from the left toolbar and combine them. Use the "Text" tool to add your brand name.
  4. Regularly save your work by clicking the "File" menu and selecting "Save".

Pro tip

Use keyboard shortcuts to speed up your workflow. For example, press "Ctrl + Z" (or "Cmd + Z" on Mac) to undo any mistakes quickly.

Common mistake to avoid

Many beginners forget to save their projects. Always click "File" then "Save" after making significant changes to avoid losing your work.
