A practical guide to get you up and running with VWO. Written by Delv Editorial, Delv Team.

Getting started with VWO

After reading this guide, you'll be able to set up your VWO account, create your first A/B test, and start gathering valuable insights to improve your website or mobile app's conversion rates.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to VWO's website.
  2. Click on the "Get Started" button at the top right of the page.
  3. Fill in your details to create a free account. You may need to verify your email address.
  4. Once logged in, follow the onboarding prompts to set up your first project. You'll need to enter your website URL and select your primary goal (e.g., increase sign-ups, sales).

Step 2: Your first A/B test

  1. From the VWO dashboard, click on "Create Test" and select "A/B Test".
  2. Enter a name for your test and the URL of the page you want to test.
  3. Use the visual editor to make changes to your webpage (e.g., change button text or colour).
  4. Set your test variations—this is where you define what changes you're testing against the original page.
  5. Configure your targeting options, such as audience and traffic distribution.
  6. Click on the "Start Test" button to launch your A/B test.

Step 3: Get better results

  1. Regularly check the "Reports" section to analyse your test results. Look for metrics such as conversion rates and user engagement.
  2. Use heatmaps to see where users are clicking and scrolling on your site. You can find this under "Insights" > "Heatmaps".
  3. Set up session recordings to watch how users interact with your website. This can be accessed in the "Insights" section.

Pro tip

Use VWO's "Goal Tracking" feature to set specific conversion goals. This allows you to measure the effectiveness of your tests against your defined objectives, leading to more focused insights.

Common mistake to avoid

Don’t rush into launching tests without sufficient traffic. Ensure your website has enough visitors to gather statistically significant results before concluding your tests. Aim for at least a few hundred visitors per variation.
