Getting started with Campaign Monitor

In this guide, you’ll learn how to create and send your first email campaign using Campaign Monitor. By the end, you'll be able to design an engaging email and use analytics to track its performance.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to Campaign Monitor.
  2. Click on the Sign Up button in the top right corner.
  3. Fill in your details to create an account. You can start with a free trial which allows you to explore basic features.
  4. Confirm your email address by clicking the link sent to your inbox.
  5. Log in to your account and follow the setup prompts to add your company information.

Step 2: Your first email campaign

  1. From the dashboard, click on the Create a Campaign button.
  2. Choose Email Campaign from the options.
  3. Select a template by clicking on Choose a Template. You can preview and select one that fits your brand.
  4. Customise the template by clicking on the text blocks to edit content, and use the Drag & Drop Builder to add images or buttons.
  5. Once satisfied, click Next to proceed to the recipients section.
  6. Select your audience by either creating a new list or choosing from existing ones.
  7. Click Next to review your email, then hit Send to launch your campaign.

Step 3: Get better results

  • Use the A/B Testing feature to send variations of your email to see which performs better. You can find this option in the campaign creation process.
  • Pay attention to the Subject Line and Preview Text; these are crucial for open rates. Experiment with different styles and lengths.
  • After sending, go to the Analytics tab to track open rates, click rates, and engagement metrics.

Pro tip

Use the Visual Journey Builder to map out your email sequences. This will help you plan automated campaigns based on user behaviour, making your marketing more effective without additional effort.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid sending your email without testing it first. Always send a test email to yourself by clicking the Send Test button before launching to ensure everything looks correct and links work.
