A practical guide to get you up and running with Fathom. Written by Delv Editorial, Delv Team.

Getting started with Fathom

In this guide, you'll learn how to set up Fathom, an AI meeting recorder that provides instant summaries of your virtual meetings. By the end, you'll be ready to streamline your note-taking and focus on the conversation.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to Fathom's website.
  2. Click on the "Get Started for Free" button on the homepage.
  3. Enter your email address and create a password to sign up.
  4. Confirm your email by checking your inbox and clicking on the verification link.
  5. Once verified, log in to your Fathom account.

Step 2: Your first meeting recording

  1. After logging in, you'll see a dashboard with a "Start Recording" button.
  2. Click on "Start Recording" and select the video conferencing platform you’re using (e.g., Zoom).
  3. Follow the prompts to connect Fathom to your chosen platform.
  4. Join your meeting as usual. Fathom will automatically start recording once you begin.
  5. After the meeting, wait a few seconds for Fathom to generate the summary. You’ll see a notification when it’s ready.

Step 3: Get better results

  1. To ensure quality summaries, speak clearly and avoid interruptions during your meetings.
  2. Use the "Highlight" feature during the meeting to mark important moments. This will help Fathom generate more focused summaries.
  3. After the meeting, review and edit the summary if needed by clicking on the "Edit Summary" button. You can add notes or key points to enhance clarity.

Pro tip

Use keyboard shortcuts while recording by pressing Ctrl + H (Windows) or Cmd + H (Mac) to quickly highlight important segments during the meeting. This saves you time when reviewing the summary later.

Common mistake to avoid

One common mistake is forgetting to connect Fathom to your video conferencing platform before the meeting. Make sure to do this during setup; otherwise, Fathom won't record your calls.
