How to Use Ghostwrite

A practical guide to get you up and running with Ghostwrite. Written by Delv Editorial, Delv Team.

Getting started with Ghostwrite

With Ghostwrite, you’ll quickly draft emails in Gmail using AI. After reading this guide, you’ll be ready to install the extension, generate your first email, and refine your messaging to save time.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to Ghostwrite's website.
  2. Click on the "Add to Chrome" button to install the extension.
  3. Once installed, open Gmail in your Chrome browser.
  4. You’ll see the Ghostwrite icon (a small pencil) in the top right corner of Gmail. Click on it to sign up for a free account.
  5. Follow the prompts to create your account or log in if you already have one.

Step 2: Your first email

  1. Open Gmail and click on the "Compose" button to start a new email.
  2. In the email body, type a prompt that describes what you want to say (e.g., "Draft a follow-up email for a client meeting").
  3. Click on the Ghostwrite icon in the compose window.
  4. Select "Generate Email" from the Ghostwrite options that appear.
  5. Review the generated email, make any necessary adjustments, and click "Send" when you’re ready.

Step 3: Get better results

  • Be specific in your prompts. Instead of saying "Write an email," try "Write a polite reminder about the project deadline."
  • Use the "Rewrite" option to modify the generated email if it’s not quite right. This allows you to tweak the tone or add additional details without starting from scratch.
  • Explore the settings by clicking on the Ghostwrite icon and selecting "Preferences." Here, you can adjust the tone and style to fit your needs.

Pro tip

Use keyboard shortcuts in Gmail (like "Ctrl + Enter" to send an email) to speed up your workflow after generating your email with Ghostwrite.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid overly vague prompts. If you simply type "Write an email," the generated response may not meet your expectations. Always include context to get the best results.
