How to Use Missive

Getting started with Missive

In this guide, you'll learn how to set up Missive and manage your team's communications from one platform. By the end, you'll be able to integrate emails, chats, SMS, and social media DMs efficiently.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

1. Visit Missive's website.
2. Click on the "Get Started" button on the homepage.
3. Choose the "Sign Up for Free" option and enter your email address.
4. Create a password and click "Create Account".
5. Confirm your email through the link sent to your inbox.
6. Once confirmed, log in to your account and follow the onboarding prompts to set up your inbox.

Step 2: Your first message

1. After logging in, you’ll see a unified inbox. Click on the "Compose" button (pencil icon) located at the top left.
2. Select the channel you want to use (Email, Chat, SMS, etc.) from the dropdown menu.
3. Enter the recipient's address or name in the "To" field.
4. Type your message in the text box and click "Send".
5. To view responses, check the respective channel in the inbox.

Step 3: Get better results

1. Use the "Labels" feature to organise conversations. Click on the "Labels" button on the right panel and create categories for different projects or topics.
2. Set up "Automations" by clicking on the gear icon in the bottom left, then "Automations". This allows you to create rules for handling incoming messages.
3. Use the "Search" bar at the top to quickly find past conversations by typing keywords or filters.

Pro tip

Use keyboard shortcuts to speed up your workflow. For example, press "C" to open a new message, "R" to reply, and "F" to forward a message. Familiarising yourself with these can save you a lot of time.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid overlooking the "Notifications" settings. If you don’t customise your notification preferences, you might miss important messages or get overwhelmed by alerts. Access this through the gear icon and adjust settings to suit your needs.
