How to Use Notion AI

A practical guide to get you up and running with Notion AI. Written by Delv Editorial, Delv Team.

Getting started with Notion AI

In this guide, you will learn how to set up Notion AI and create your first document using its AI features. By the end, you’ll be able to summarise notes and brainstorm ideas efficiently.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

  1. Go to Notion's website.
  2. Click on “Sign up” at the top right corner.
  3. Choose to sign up with your email, Google account, or Apple ID.
  4. Follow the prompts to create your account. If you’re using the free tier, you’ll have access to basic features and the AI add-on for $10/user/month.
  5. Once signed in, you will see the Notion workspace. Familiarise yourself with the layout.

Step 2: Your first document

  1. Click on the “+ New Page” button in the sidebar.
  2. Give your page a title, e.g., “Meeting Notes”.
  3. To use Notion AI, type “/ai” and select “Ask AI” from the dropdown.
  4. Enter a prompt, such as “Summarise today’s meeting notes” or “Brainstorm project ideas”.
  5. Click “Submit” and wait for Notion AI to generate the content.
  6. Review and edit the AI-generated text as needed.

Step 3: Get better results

  • Use clear and specific prompts for better AI outputs. Instead of vague requests, specify what you need, e.g., “List three main points from my notes”.
  • Explore templates by clicking “Templates” in the sidebar. This will give you a head start on structuring your pages.
  • Use the “Slash” command (/) to access various blocks and features quickly, such as adding headings, lists, or images.

Pro tip

To save time, create a template for recurring tasks or notes. Set it up once, and you can duplicate it for future use with a single click.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid making vague requests to the AI. Be clear and specific in your prompts to ensure you get the most relevant and useful results.
