Getting started with Whimsical AI

In this guide, you'll learn how to create flowcharts, wireframes, and mind maps using Whimsical AI. By the end, you’ll be able to generate diagrams from text descriptions and collaborate with others effectively.

Step 1: Sign up and set up

1. Go to Whimsical's website.
2. Click on the “Sign up” button in the top right corner.
3. Choose to sign up using your Google account or enter your email and create a password.
4. After confirming your email, log in to access your dashboard.
5. You can start with the free tier, which allows you to create a limited number of boards.

Step 2: Your first flowchart

1. From your dashboard, click on “+ New Board” and select “Flowchart.”
2. Click on the “Text” tool in the left sidebar and type your first node's label.
3. To add another node, click on the node you created, and then click the “+” icon that appears to add a connected node.
4. Continue adding nodes and connections until your flowchart is complete.
5. To enhance your flowchart, click on any node and use the formatting options in the right sidebar to change colours, shapes, or fonts.

Step 3: Get better results

1. Use the AI feature by clicking on the “AI” button located in the top toolbar.
2. Type a text description of the diagram you want to create, such as “Create a flowchart for onboarding new employees.”
3. Click “Generate,” and the AI will create a diagram based on your description.
4. You can then adjust and refine the AI-generated diagram using the editing tools.

Pro tip

To save time, use keyboard shortcuts. For example, press "N" to create a new node and "Tab" to connect it to the previous one quickly.

Common mistake to avoid

Avoid overcrowding your diagrams with too many nodes. Keep your flowcharts clear and concise to ensure they are easy to understand. Focus on the main points and use sub-diagrams for detailed sections.
